You’re busy.
I’m busy. The world is busy. And the internet is on OVERDRIVE.
BUT we still
have something to say, passions to pursue, remarkable products to introduce and
great creative works that are going to add amazing value to other people’s
lives.
How do you get
them seen? How do you get your voice heard? How does your message get to the
millions on the other side of the computer who have just been waiting for what
you have to offer?
You build your
platform. They will come.
What is a platform?
In the dictionary, the word platform is defined as “a raised level surface on which people or things can stand”.
Back in the old in
days – a megaphone was used to get your message across. In order for your
message to be heard – your audience had to be within in yelling distance.
The megaphone segued
to newspaper, radio and then television.
You could reach a lot of people – but the opportunities were limited for
everyday people who didn’t have celebrity or power to make them stand out.
But in the new age of
social media, everyone has access to a virtual megaphone and can begin building their
platform right away … for free!
Why build a platform?
You know that your message, your story,
your speech, your product or your book is phenomenal. Your mama knows too. So does your best friend. But if that’s where
the buck stops, what’s the point?
If you want to get your message to
millions and truly gain global visibility, then a platform is a must.
Because whatever you have to offer to
the world, is irrelevant if no one else knows about it.
How do you build a
platform?
1.
Content
is King
You’ve heard the saying, “You only
have one chance to make a first impression.” The same is true for your content.
You must make sure that your messaging is on point coming right out of the gate
because if you don’t hook them right away, it will be three times as hard to
get them back. This is true for your blog, your website and other social media
sites.
2.
Create
a Solid Foundation
You must have a website or blog.
There is no way to get around it. Your website and blog are considered your
home base – your foundation. Social
media sites are great ways to drive traffic to your website or blog but social
media sites alone will not help you build a sustainable platform.
3.
Be
Consistent
Once you have perfected your
message, you must be consistent in delivering it on a regular basis. I would
suggest 3-5 times a week. Why? Because your message is going to be so over the
top good that you are going to leave people hungry for more! And what happens
when you don’t feed a hungry person? They generally go somewhere else to eat.
I’ll talk more about each step to building a platform in upcoming
messages and I’ll be adding much more so that you have plenty of tools to work
with.
